Dear Hector:
Pardon me for the enormous delay in responding to your letter
of December 19, asking about t e test of soil samples and photographs
of the area in which an observation occurred near Duluth on November of the area in which an observation occurred near Duluth on November
19. We have arranged to do all of the testing of samples at one 19. We have arranged to do all of the testing of samples at one
time - which is about now - so we haven't dor time - which is about now anything yet on the
together with pies of the photographs as you requested.
I must say that the soil samples don't look like much. In
the first place, i totally impossible do compaction
tests, because the sample consists of what is e essentially a bottle of
non-adhering dust particles. The notion of compaction in that
sample doesn't seem to apply at all, though we'll try to see if,
after preliminary tests, there seems to be any reason to press on
with anything more elaborate.
Best wishes.
Sincerely yours,

Here is why?
On that evening at 5 pm,
Rochester 9, N. Y., and
stopped deer hunting with bow and arrow and came out of the woods on
the highest peak of Gannett Hill, we anandaigua Lake.
No stars were visible. It was raining lightly and visibility was poor, .
but we could see the outline of South Hill on the East side of Canadaigua
Lake. Above South Hill were four extremely bright white lights. By
compass they were slightly north east, or directly toward Sampson, or
even north Sampson.
They looked like bright flares but did not apoear to descend or move at
all whileI lighted. Each light would last only a few seconds and disappear
to be I replaced soon afterwards by another light displaced laterally and
vertically. There were never more than 4 visible at once never less
than l.
But other things about them did not resemble flares. It may have been an

I would estimate that we observed over a thousand lights come and go before
we left Cannett Hill. On descending we could not see the lighta. On
ascending another hill near Canandaigua, we could see nothing unusual.
